Rob Southwick received his economics education
from the University of Florida, School of Business with an
emphasis on regulatory economics, micro- and macro-economics
and advanced statistics and computer skills. From 1988 to 1990
Rob worked as an economist for the Sport Fishing Institute
in Washington, D.C. before forming his own research firm, Southwick
Associates, specializing in the economics related to fish,
wildlife, outdoor recreation and natural resources. Rob is
experienced in economic impact and valuation research, public
surveying, project management, public speaking, and conflict
resolution. He is also fluent in the use of all major desktop,
database and statistical software and applications. Rob has
successfully combined his interests in sportfishing and wildlife
with his economics training and experience. He is currently
affiliated with the American Fisheries Society, the Wildlife
Society, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature
(IUCN) Economics Working Group and has spent two years as a
member of the IAFWA's National Survey of Fishing, Hunting and
Wildlife-Associated Recreation Subcommittee for the past 3
surveys.
Rob Southwick has a unique perspective
on the business aspects of fish and wildlife and the sustainable
use of natural resources. Under his leadership, since its
inception in 1990, Southwick Associates has completed more
than 100 projects relating to the economics and marketing of
fish, wildlife and natural resources in the United States.
The firm has also spent considerable time marketing, promoting
and analyzing nonconsumptive uses of wildlife including ecotourism,
wildlife watching, nature-related festivals and other wildlife-related
