Tom Allen is an Associate Scientist in the
Department of Resource Economics & Policy, University of
Maine where he has worked since 1992. Before joining the university,
Tom worked as a research analyst for Stonington Development
Corporation in Bangor, Maine and as Economic Development Coordinator
for the Mechanic Falls Industrial Development Commission. Tom
received his B.S. in natural resource management/land use planning
and his M.S. in Community Development, both at the University
of Maine. Tom's work focuses on the economics of agriculture,
natural resources and small businesses and he has published
numerous studies investigating such diverse topics as farm
and forest economics, taxation and various feasibility studies.
Although much of his work has focused on statewide issues,
he has also studied small business incubators as an economic
development tool for the Blagoevgrad Region of Bulgaria for
the American University in Bulgaria and presented a paper
on this topic at the XX International Conference of Agricultural
Economists in Argentina. Since 2000, Tom has provided his
data management and analysis skills to consulting projects
with Southwick Associates. |
