Angler Survey from Southwick Reveals Interesting Summer Trends

The July-August 2013 survey is based on usable responses from anglers across the U.S. This analysis presents the highlights and compares the results to the survey from one year ago (July-August 2012).Below are brief summaries of the highlights within the survey. Extensive details are provided in the pages that follow. Please note that while a static picture of the results for a given month provides good insights, comparing results from one month to another provides a better picture of industry trends and changes. The percentages reported here reflect the percent of anglers who reported buying a product in the category or participating in the type of activity specified.
Fishing Activities
Of those that went freshwater fishing:
  • 86% fished with artificial baits
  • 59% fished for largemouth or spotted bass
  • 65% fished from land, pier, dock or wading
  • 37% fished 6 to 15 days in the last two months

Of those who went saltwater fishing:

  • 72% fished with artificial baits
  • 31% fished for Redfish, red drum, channel bass
  • 68% fished from a powerboat
  • 33% fished 3 to 5 days in the last two months

All Purchases

  • 53% of those surveyed made equipment purchases in the last two months
  • The most frequently purchased type of fishing equipment purchased was lures (67%)
