Currently, all annual California fishing and hunting licenses expire on December 31^st regardless of the date when purchased. Two bills under consideration would require the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) to offer licenses that expire 12 months from the date of purchase. This report explores key considerations for moving to 365-day licenses, including license revenue, churn, and other states’ programs.
