Outdoor Recreation’s Economic Impact State-by-State Now Available

The Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) released the state-level Outdoor Recreation Economy Report featuring economic data from all 50 states. The report, which was conducted and analyzed by Southwick Associates, portrays a growing economic force that generates billions in consumer spending and directly contributes to American jobs in the U.S.  states

This state-level report expands on OIA’s National Recreation Economy Report, which was released earlier this year. Also produced by Southwick Associates, the national report found that consumers spend $887 billion per year on outdoor recreation and directly support 7.6 million American jobs. The state report takes a deeper look into how outdoor recreation creates a healthy economy and stronger communities across the country. The final numbers include spending and impacts generated by hunting, fishing and wildlife viewing.

“From Maine to California, consumers are spending more on outdoor recreation as millions of Americans depend on it for their livelihoods,” said Amy Roberts, OIA executive director in a press release. “Outdoor recreation is a powerful economic engine that contributes to businesses and healthy communities in each and every state and is a vital and sustainable sector that relies on investing in and protecting America’s public land and waters.”
