Why Many Hunter Ed Grads Never Hunt – And How We Can Help Them Start

One-third of hunter education graduates will not buy a license within seven years of graduating, though only five percent did not intend to hunt prior to taking the course. While significant effort has been made to recruit new hunters, little has been done to engage them once they graduate. Constant engagement is critical if hunting is to grow. On behalf of the Sportsmen’s Alliance and the International Hunter Education Association, we’ve learned why many don’t buy a license after graduating and the in-class and post-graduation tactics can be utilized to increase their hunting activity. This work was accomplished by mining state license and hunter education data, online focus groups by DJ Case and Associates, plus surveys. Click here to learn how to help increase the number of graduates who go on to become confident, independent hunters.
