September 27, 2012 – Hunting, Fishing Rebound in U.S. – More Americans are heading outdoors to hunt and fish for fun, reversing a two-decade-long decline among adults. Eleven percent more Americans (ages 16 and older) fished and 9% more hunted in 2011 than in 2006, according to a new five-year survey from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

September 5, 2012 – Help Stop the Loss of Land and Water for Hunting and Fishing; Surveys Provide Fast, Simple Way for Sportsmen to be Heard – Last year nearly 23 percent of hunters lost access to land they had previously hunted, while just over 20 percent of anglers had to change or cancel plans to fish because certain waters or access points were no longer open to them. One reason for this lost access is due to development. Between 1982 and 1997, 41.3 million acres of rural land were turned into subdivisions, malls, office parks and the like. August 28, 2012 – Economy, Recruitment Programs Lead to Growth in Hunting, Fishing Participation – When the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) recently reported the number of hunters grew by nine percent since 2006 and the number of anglers grew by 11 percent in that same time frame, sportsmen and the sporting industry were thrilled. The numbers, which are preliminary results released as the initial look into the USFWS’s 2011 National Survey of Fishing, Hunting and Wildlife-Associated Recreation, reversed what had been dropping participation levels in fishing over the past 10 years and indicated the first jump in hunter numbers in more than two decades.

August 15, 2012 – Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is working with other agencies to monitor a red tide event along the upper Texas coast.The bloom was first confirmed on Sunday, August 12, by biologists with the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) who collected samples around the Galveston area to follow up on reports of dead fish washing ashore.
